Our Story
Brain Tumour Support NZ was formed in 2019 in response to the severe lack of information and support for brain tumour patients and their families in New Zealand.
Many of our trustees have direct experience of either living with a brain tumour, or caring for a family member who has a brain tumour.
As New Zealand’s brain tumour support charity, we provide information, support and guidance to patients, their families and friends.
We advocate for the best treatments, care and support for patients, so they can have the best possible outcomes and quality of life. We want to ensure that ‘we are in this together’.
Why are we here?
Brain tumours are the leading cause of cancer death in people under 40. A brain tumour diagnosis can have the double impact of a cancer diagnosis and a progressively debilitating neurological disease. The treatments can be complex and often come with side effects.
Some brain tumours may be classified as benign or non-malignant, but we know that all brain tumours are life-changing. Diagnosis brings with it fear, isolation, disempowerment and a loss of control. This is where we help.
OUR VISION
Our vision is that people affected by a brain tumour feel less afraid, less alone and more empowered.
OUR MISSION
To inform, support and advocate for everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand affected by a brain tumour.
OUR VALUES
Inclusivity Compassion
Integrity Respect
